That's mean Not really, it was a game specifically written to be played in, take advantage of, and showcase VR. Valve stated that if modders wanted to produce a playable flat version that was ok with them but their belief was playing it without VR would negate most of what made the game a great experience, so there was little incentive for them to do so.
For a game built with VR controls and viewpoint in mind, the Alyx NoVR mod is impressively playable without a headset. Everything from shooting headcrabs to picking up items with the gravity gloves works more or less as you'd expect in a "standard" first-person shooter (though we did have to restart a few times to get some interactions to work
Why VR? Alyx, and HL2. Probably Pavlov Maybe Dirt rally 2 / Asseto Corsa. Maybe Hitman 3 and Cloudpunk. But the biggest weakness do i see in lack of good games like Alyx. In my age, i wish i see more games like Ready or Not in VR and not light sabers, social media games etc
